10 Best Weekend Getaways from Boston

One of the best parts about New England summers is the accessibility to countless getaway towns. We rounded up some of our favorite spots all within a two hour drive from Boston. 1. Cape Cod, MA

The Cape is a staple getaway for all New Englanders. Grab a bite at the Chatham Squire, listen to live music at The Beachcomber, shop and dine on Commercial Street in Provincetown or hit the beaches that line the towns of the Cape. No matter what your cup of tea is, you're bound to find it in one of the many quaint coastal towns of the Cape.

2. Nantucket, MA

There's not much not to love about the little island of Nantucket. Whether you're looking to shop, dine, grab a cocktail or kick off your shoes on the beach, Nantucket has it all. Known for its charm, cobblestone streets, beautiful beaches and rich history, you'll feel as if you have just entered a different little world from the minute you step off the ferry.

3. Martha's Vineyard, MA

Hop on the ferry in Narragansett to spend a summer day or weekend on the small isle of Block Island. Rent bikes to explore around, explore the dunes and walk around art galleries and shops. No matter what you end up doing, make sure you don't miss out on enjoying a Painkiller on the beach from Ballards.

5. Newport, RI

This coastal town is chock full of history and things to do. Spend your day touring the Mansions, walk along the Cliff Walk, pop in and out of shops, head out on the water, and top it off with a cocktail by the sea. There's not much that you can't find in Newport.

6. Lake Winnipesaukee

If you want to get away from the city, but you're not a beach goer, then Winnipesaukee is for you. Hike the White Mountains, rent a party pontoon, grab a local bite to eat, or plan a visit during Laconia Bike Week.

7. Newburyport/Plum Island, MA

The cobblestone streets lined with shops and restaurants are too beautiful to pass up. Belly up to one of the many cozy bars Newburyport has to offer or along the boardwalk to watch the boats pass by. Plum Island is a hop skip and a jump away and connected by a winding road. Enjoy beautiful sandy beaches before heading back to Newburyport for a bite to eat.

8. Portsmouth, NH

9. Hampton Beach, NH
